Scholarships

The Mile High Chapter of AITP currently offers two annual scholarships.  Applications are solicited each spring and the Chapter scholarship committees select recipients in May.  Contributions are accepted at any time and are tax deductible. The AITP Foundation for Information Technology Education administers the accounts.

Each of the funds was created initially to accept contributions to honor the memory of a worthy individual who had contributed significantly to education in the Denver IT community.  Since then, the Chapter has decided to commit to the continuation of these funds as an on-going support of IT education.  Growth of the funds depends on Chapter fundraisers and through individual contributions.

Dave Sanders, computer lab and business instructor at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, was among those killed on April 20, 1999.  He was the only teacher and non-student killed.  The Mile High Chapter of AITP has created a fund in his honor.  This fund will be used to provide grants of tuition and book aid to Columbine graduates seeking technology-related college degrees.

Harold M. Pool Recognition Award

photo of Harold Pool

The Mile High Chapter of AITP established the Harold M. Pool Recognition Award, previously known as the Harold M. Pool Memorial Scholarship, in memory of its first president and long time mentor. The chapter was founded in 1952 and Harold was an active member until his death in February, 2001.

To be eligible to receive an award, candidates must be national AITP student members enrolled in a Colorado college or university. The students must be either AITP student chapter members, or individual members if an official AITP student chapter does not exist at their school. Each must be nominated by an AITP member of the Mile High Chapter.

The following Colorado schools are currently affiliated with the Chapter and have AITP student chapters:

  • Colorado Mesa University – CMU  (formerly Mesa State College – MSC), Grand Junction
  • Metropolitan State University of Denver – MSUD  (formerly Metropolitan State College of Denver – MSCD)

The goal of the award is to encourage those students whom the Chapter believes will continue Harold’s legacy.  These students are typically active in AITP, have a propensity for mentoring others, and obviously care about the success of others. Nominations are solicited and accepted in the spring.
